This is my 4th cruise with Norwegian, 7th cruise overall so I kind of knew what to expect from the trip. That being said, we mostly booked this cruise for the itinerary and the time frame. There was only one day at sea, which suited us just fine. The reason why we took a break from cruising was because the intensive sea day heavy cruises to the Caribbeans wasted a lot of time, in our opinion.

We embarked in Rome, which was a bit far from the main part of the city, but easy breezy. We checked in and got onto the ship no problem. We did have to check in our melon liquor and coffee liquor that we brought in Rome, but that wasn't a problem. We weren't planning on drinking them on board anyways. By the time we finished our lunch in the Garden Cafe, our luggage was waiting for us. We embarked at about 1:00pm and our stateroom was ready for us.

The stateroom was interesting - as most reviewers have mentioned, there's a separate shower and toilet. This worked out well for us as a family of three girls because it meant I can use the bathroom while my sister takes her hour long showers! The bed configuration was kind of odd - the couch turned into a bed but if you did so, there would be NO room to walk in the stateroom and out to the balcony. We opted to just all sleep on the king bed together since we're all relatively small. Luggage went onto the couch, but it still felt a bit cramped. I could only find two outlets, which was a small inconvenience. Good thing I had brought the USB splitter I brought for my Japan trip!

Port Reviews

Marseille

We opted to stay in Marseille and to do our own thing instead of taking a tour. We took a cab to Notre Dame de la Garde right after getting off the ship. Then we walked down to the Old Port - there are a bunch of tiny stands selling unique souvenirs! The ferris wheel was a solid activity. Don't try to walk back to the port from Old Port - it's not really a good idea.

Barcelona

A bunch of us CruiseCritic folks pre-ordered a taxi to Sagrada Familia because we didn't want to deal with the amount of people also getting off/on in Barcelona. It worked out great. We toured the church and then took a cab down to Las Ramblas - walked to the beach and had excellent paella at Can Sole. Again, like Marseille, don't try to walk back to the port - it's a long way!
