Our diverse group of six had a rough time with meals. The service was always excellent and made every effort, but no service team can make bad food good. Oh, the meat eaters did well enough - the occasional overdone piece was quickly replaced. But the vegetarians or those with allergies who just needed a little something left off the plate had a bad time at dinner. Mushroom ravioli that tasted of salted mud. Quinoa croquettes that looked like dog droppings and tasted like nothing. Discovering, when you have them leave it off, that sauce is the only reason everyone else's chicken didn't remind them of chalk. All in all, the food in the dining rooms was only able to make half the group happy, which is a poor performance.

The night at Remy, however, was excellent, and worth every penny. It's a shame they wouldn't flex the age limit for children who appreciate good food and know how to behave in a good restaurant. I understand the line has no way to screen effectively for that, but I would have liked to share the evening with my very 'foodie' teens.

The ports of call were mixed. Our itinerary took us to Cozumel, which doesn't have much to do unless you like to buy drinking tours. It also took us to Falmouth Jamaica, which could be wonderful! But it isn't. The ship drops you at a "no locals" area with overpriced shopping. Outside, a mosquito market-full of people who aren't connected to the cruise industry do what they can to provide some goods & services to tourists, but because of the gates, It's a Tale of Two Cities, and the glaring disparity made my children sad - a fact that really diminished my visit to Falmouth. Disney apparently doesn't have the breadth of vision to care about that, which really diminished my whole cruise. We took a locally-owned historic walking tour, though, and that was wonderful! We also took a taxi to the caves, which were fascinating and delightful. Of course, the ship also stopped at Castaway Cay, Bahamas. That had fun play structures and soft-serve, so the children liked it. With the terrible snorkeling and no access allowed outside the 'harbor,' it wasn't much more than a ship day when you could spread out, though -- no experience of local culture, wildlife, or scenery.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

Cabin 05D

The cabin was one of the highlights of the trip! The kids' lofted bed was all we could wish for, sturdy and spacious enough, plus it was out of the way all day long. And the adults' bed hit the 'comfort compromise' better than most hotel mattresses (one of us likes sleeping on a wet sponge, the other a soda cracker.) Our balcony was clean, and the bathroom well-designed. The cabin steward hit the perfect balance of friendly, there when we needed him, and unobtrusive when we didn't feel like chatting. He earned our biggest tip of the cruise. Plus, you have to love towel animals and chocolates on the pillow!
