My husband and I signed up for this cruise to join friends who had already booked. By the time we sailed we were a party of eight. The itinerary was much more interesting then I would have imagined. Quebec is a world class gem! Boston, Portland, Charlottetown, and Halifax were wonderful ports. Easy to find interesting things to see and to do. Bar Harbor very pretty, but very, very touristy; t-shirt shops galore. Sydney, Nova Scotia needs to work a little harder to convert itself from an industrial town into a cruise destination, but has a beautiful natural setting and the natives could not have been more friendly.
The Summit, while older, is well maintained and updated in the public spaces. The staterooms could use a face lift, although ours was very clean and comfortable. Crew were wonderful without exception. Some cutbacks in quality of rooms service offerings were apparent. Many more room service items now have an "up charge" attached. Entertainment was the best I can remember on a cruise ship. Food in main dining was very good, bordering on excellent. Food in the Oceanview Café was also very good. One in our party had celiac disease and was delighted to discover many tasty gluten free options. Fitness center well designed with modern equipment. Embarkation and disembarkation were well organized and efficient.
Cabin needs to be updated. Newer ships have storage areas that are much better designed . Furnishings looking a bit shabby; bathroom had cracked tiles, mirror chipped. On the plus side, everything was very clean. Bed linens crisp and towels fluffy; everything fresh. Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion) in good supply; had to request cotton balls and q-tips. Cabin stewards were great in and out very quickly; we hardly saw them.
We flew into LaGuardia and spent several days in New York City. We had a wonderful time there, did not spend any time in Bayonne. The port facilities are fine, we had no issues.
Very touristy town. T-shirt shops everywhere. Lunch at Bar Harbor Inn was the definite highlight of the day. The lobster roll was great!
Charming small town. Interesting shops, restaurants, historical sites. Very walkable port. We walked through the town, did some shopping had a nice lunch. Very pleasant day!
Small town, formerly an industrial center, trying to become a tourist center. Beautiful scenery, a fledgling local arts and crafts scene, and locals who were extremely welcoming. Not much to do or to see, but lots of potential for prudent development.
