We were looking for something to do for our 5th Anniversary. After exploring several options we decided upon across after seeing a special offer via Travelzoo that appealed to us and decided to book it. We had never cruised on Norwegian and heard it was a better than some of the other cruise operators. After viewing information about the Norwegian Getaway we felt like it would satisfy our needs as it seemed to be a nice ship, with nice dinning venues, entertainment, cabins, etc.

We also liked the port destinations for this cruise because we had never been to them. The ports were Roatan Honduras, Belize City, Costa Maya and Cozumel. , at least from reading about them. The price was pretty good and the cruise time fit perfectly into our schedule. Because the cruise was leaving out of Miami it offered us a mini vacation there before leaving on the cruise. So, it just really seemed like a good opportunity for us all around.

Here's a quick assessment of the cruise ship, service, etc.

Cabin Review

Family Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B4

The cabin was a little smaller than we expected but it was comfortable space wise. The cabin was clean, everything worked properly. There was a refrigerator, that we didn't know was included (of the items in it was for a fee) and it was a bit too small to put anything else in it. The balcony was small but it did allow for us to sit or stand comfortably. The bathroom was the typical, small sink, toilet and shower. The did have adequate storage space in the bathroom and places to hang used towels or wet clothing like swim trunks. The closet space was fine for us, although it was awkward getting into one side because of it being so close to the end of the fixed sofa. But between the storage drawers under the sofa, the shelves and the hanging space in the closet we plenty of place for our clothes. we even used one of the drawers under the sofa for clothing we had already worn. We also liked that the beds were high enough to store our luggage (2 large hard shell pieces and one rolling duffel bag like piece) underneath so we didn't have to walk around any of it while in the cabin.

The bed itself was a little hard for our taste and since they provided four pillows it would have been nice if they had at least two different types of pillows.

Port Reviews

Miami

I think the terminal in Miami is horrible. It's not welcoming at all. It's dark and dreary. When you return it's unclear where to find the rental car shuttles. We ended up taking a cab because the shuttle bus for Budget didn't stop in the area where our boat docked. All we saw was a an area for cabs.

Belize City

It was a nice tour, the only issue is you may not see much if the wildlife isn't active. Fortunately we did see a couple of manatees peek above water and we did see howler monkeys in the tree tops a couple of times. The tour guide was very good and full of information about Belize, the river and region. The rum punch was good also... :)
