Sail Date: Aug 2016
Cabin: Balcony

We chose this cruise because it was one of a few that went north from Vancouver to Anchorage and we wanted a midsize ship with a balcony rooms that left on a specific date. After reading the reviews on Princess, we felt it was the right choice to make.

Food: We signed up for the 5:45 dinner seating. What we didn’t know was there were only 2 seatings: 5:15 and 7:30 (or 8). 5:15 was a little too early for us. So, we went to the 'reserved 5:15 seating' dining room for 3 nights, the cafeteria for 3 nights and then the steak and seafood dining room for 1 night. Although we had to pay extra for the steak and seafood dining room - it was worth it. They were incredibly careful with my allergies, the food was excellent and the server was very attentive. The 5:15 seating dining room was very attentive to my allergies also but insisted that I order dinner the night before - no spontaneity there. The cafeteria had most of the same food minus the special of the day. Plus it allowed us the freedom to eat when we wanted and not have to change clothes.

They served a fabulous variety of fish that was always good. There was always fresh fruit and salads for breakfast and lunch. The last night in the main dininig room the food was excellent. Given the selection of food available and the workout room, it was possible to take the cruise without gaining any weight. The service in all of the restaurants (and the cafeteria) was excellent and attentive.

Balcony

Cabin BB

We had a balcony room (Baja 719). The extra space in the room was really convenient as we didn’t feel like we were crowded and we did stand on the balcony quite a few times to see the ports, glaciers and mountains – so it was worth the extra money. The room itself was a tad used. There were dirt spots all over the carpet. The bed was very comfortable and the one chair (besides the desk chair) was comfortable. There was plenty of storage space- a big closet, 4 drawers and then another closet with shelves. Although the bathroom was small (single person shower), the sink had plenty of counter space and a long shelf under the sink for our toiletries.

During the first 2 nights, the bed vibrated frequently – perhaps we were over the engine or ? These two day and nights were when we were cruising from Vancouver to Ketchikan. After that time period, there wasn’t any significant vibration.
