I have sailed on many cruise lines, including Rccl, and believed that since this ship was older and smaller, the experience would below what I would come to expect from Rccl. THAT WAS FAR FROM THE TRUTH. Empress surpassed my expectations, the ship was clean, the crew was friendly, service in the Main dining room was quick and efficient. The shows were new and current, and nightlife, even though started late at 10:45pm, every night, they were energetic and full of passengers enjoying themselves. Even for a small ship did not feel crowded
My dining time was 6pm in the main dining room, where we enjoyed fast service, fast enough that we were able to attend the first show in the theater every night.
The ports were Key West and Nassau, which I've visited enough times to establish residency, so nothing new to add.
The cabin were decent size, not too big, but not too small, perfect for the three of us, but anymore it would have been crowded and I don't suggest it, unless it's with small children. The bathrooms were on a bit tiny, not much space to move around in.
I did miss the movie channel on the TV, which was available on other ships, which is needed as there are periods in the daytime, where there are no activities at all, especially on port days.
The port is located in Downtown Nassau in the midst of all the shopping, straw market, restaurants, and bars. If you are looking for tour of the island or just a ride to the beach, there are toooo many tour guides , with different prices to take you where ever you want to go with prices varying from 20pp to 40pp, depending on how how many people and the length of your tour. Do not buy conch shells or any sea life or food, it will be confiscated by the ship, and the food you must eat prior to boarding. Nassau port is great for drinking, souvenir shopping, and the beach.
