This was our first Ocean Cruise, we have already been on a River Cruise down the Danube. we chose Royal Caribbean purely because it was an American Cruise Line and we had such a great first experience of any type of cruising with another American line, Uniworld. The atmosphere was just so laid back, although we had 2 formal dinners during the week, which was good, because it gave you the opportunity to really dress up, which is always a treat. The whole experience was wonderful, from the moment we left home, arrived in Venice and returned home.We travelled to Venice independently and arranged for a Limousine to pick us up and take us to the cruise Terminal, (well it was a special trip). Once we arrived at the terminal, it was just so organized, as we had booked a Grand Suite, we were directed to priority check-in, which was slick and very professional. We were offered a glass of champagne and were told that our cabin would be ready after 1pm, but we could go onboard and enjoy a leisurely lunch. This is exactly what we did and so our experience had begun.Sailing out of Venice is just not to be missed, it is an incredible experience that will stay etched in our minds forever. It was just stunning.Although Splendour is one of the smallest ships in the RCI fleet, it is still magnificent. I had read reviews stating that it was old and dated and in need of refurbishment, so was pleasantly surprised by the interior. We had no gripes with the ship, our suite was just enormous and the balcony was huge, which was just brilliant. Grand Suite 8016 on Deck 8 - forward - Enormous, bathroom huge and marble. Lots of wardrobe space and so many drawers we could not fill them. The bed was Kingsize, the robes and towels were so soft and sparkling white. Our balcony was massive with 2 chairs, 2 loungers and 2 tables. The privacy screens really were perfect, you could see nothing of your neighbors through them. We had a sofa bed and 2 armchairs, a coffee table, television, dressing table. There were mirrors everywhere so you always knew how good or bad you looked,we could not hear anything from any of the adjoining cabins, the hallway was never noisy. The very best though, was our Cabin Steward. Top marks to him. All the crew, without exception, was courteous and they always had a smile. Our Cabin Steward, Suri, was just lovely, there was nothing he would not do to help to make our trip perfect. The dining experiences were great, The King and I Restaurant was beautiful, our waiters first class and very entertaining, and the food was very good. We are not able to manage more than 3 courses at the very most, so the amount of food we were offered was just right. The selection was very good and all meals were served as they should be, either piping hot or very cold as with Sorbets and Fruit. The Windjammer restaurant was very good as was the choice of food and amount on offer. You could eat for virtually 24 hours a day like kings if you wanted to on board. The ports of call were well selected and the trips not too long, after all why go on a cruise if you are not going to spend any time onboard relaxing or enjoying all the activities on offer. We splashed out on a Private Water Taxi back to the airport, it was such a thrilling experience, you should try it, a great way to end a magnificent experience.I could go on about how wonderful our trip was, the entertainment, the new friends we made, the calmness of the Med, but it would take me days. Just lets say, the Splendour was SPLENDID.We are now hooked and have already booked for RCI's Independence of the Seas, Canary Island cruise to Madeira and the Canary Islands, 10 nights sailing out of Southampton 25th April 2010. We cannot wait.  Thankyou RCI for making our first sea cruising experience the very best it could have been.
