Carnival Conquest is just another low budget cruise. I had no choice unfortunately when it came time to book something as I only had five days summer vacation and there was very little being offered during those days(August 4th-8th) Believe me, I would have picked RCCL or Celebrity, or even Norwegian or Holland America, but I needed the best options for ports of call for a short trip and Conquest gave us the best options.

The ship is definitely in need of a major over haul. It has seen better days and the artsy colourful tones are anything but. My husband still says he has flashbacks to the ghastly flowers coming out of the wall on promenade.

Cabin: We decided to upgrade to a balcony this time around and am I ever glad we did. It was too crowded most places and there was no shaded areas to sit on this ship on the outer decks, and the one place that did have shade had black soot falling on us from the smoke stack!! I was so upset, I got it on video and I will be posting it on youtube shortly. Back to the cabin. Standard Carnival Balcony, bed was a little better than most cruises we had been on. Yes had the blow dryer, yes had the line you could pull over in the shower to dry your clothes. Has shampoo and body wash on the wall. Had lots of space for putting clothes away. Balcony was standard and we sat out watching the best lightening show one night Loved it! But hated the smokers. You are not allowed to smoke in your room or on balconies any longer, and I will call your butt on it every time. You'll get charged $200.00 for a cleaning charge and I don't give a ****. Hats off to the nicest and most attentive room steward we have ever had on our eleven cruises. His name is Junior and I personally want to thank him for giving the smokers crap and warning them that there will be a charge for the cleaning of the room.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8C

Standard Balcony. Had everything you would need. More room for storage than other cruise lines. The colours on Carnival ships have to change. Beds were better than most we've had still too hard though. Balcony was nice, saw a great lightening show from a distant thunderstorm one night it was great! You can't smoke in your cabin OR on balconies any more. Don't let people away with it!! It's a 200$ charge for cleaning the room after. I have asthma and I certainly don't want breathing problems after you leave it. It soaks into walls, bedding, couches everything! and I certainly don't want to breathe it in while I'm resting on my balcony.

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Not the best embarkation they just can't seem to get their act together getting people on effeciently. Way too long a wait.

Disembarkation was the worst we ever had. If we hadn't forced the issue to go off earlier we would have missed our flight, and we were carry off!!! They were doing it a weird way by floors! I feel sorry for people with numbers, they hadn't even started to call them when we started off the ship to customs at 10:00AM!

Nassau

Nassau - booked our own pass for the day at the Colonial Hilton basically we could walk to it and hit the straw market on our way back. It was just ok. No servers to bring you drinks, and we had to wave someone down to order food. The drinks were watered down and overpriced. The worst came later when they tried to charge our Visa when we got home 157$ for "unknown services" We paid cash for what we had over and above. They had the nerve to say there was four of us (there was just my husband and I), then they back tracked and said we went over our allowance, my hudband kept the receipts and since we have such a good credit card company all we had to do was call them and they said they were gonna get their people involved and the better business bureau and cleared our card. I hate Hilton, but my husband was adamant he wanted to try it. Never again.

Freeport

Freeport: Grand Lucayan. It was a good beach, Rough ocean though dangerous for kids. You had to walk really far for anything!! Again no servers...the buffet was outrageously priced for what you got!! Next time non of this credit crap, If the day pass does not say all inclusive I'm not doing it. Pool was clean but small. Wouldn't stay there for a vacation.
