We chose the cruise for the itinerary - Hubbard and Tracy Arm glaciers, Icy Strait, Sitka, Ketchikan, Juneau, Homer, Anchorage, Kodiak. What a great itinerary. This was our first 14 day cruise and the ship activities during sea days were varied, but also lots of regular stuff, e.g. Bingo, so you could try different things or go to your old "stand by". Crew was fantastic. We had about 36 hours of very rough seas and the Captain made regular announcements keeping us all informed of what to expect and not to worry, we were safe. The Maasdam is an older ship but beautifully maintained. Smaller ship app 1200 passengers? Our cabin location on Navigation aft was excellent - steps away from the back open deck and bar, one floor down from the buffet. The best shore excursion ever was the Kodiak Harbor Tour with Marion and Marty Owen (his name might be wrong). Highly recommended. 6 passengers on their private boat. The wildlife was amazing. Rafts of sea otters (the most I've seen at one time), sea lions, puffins, Eagles and one whale -no kidding, in the harbor! The food was at times spotty - some dishes very good, others not so much. All around service was excellent every where from the stateroom to the bars, to the casino to the dining options. I highly recommend this cruise but hear that the Maasdam is going to be sold next year. Look for this itinerary on the Maasdam or another HAL ship. You will not be disappointed.
