Beach Memories are the Best! (outside the walls of Amber Cove!)

We were with a group of 15 friends and family: some in our group have cruised many times, some only a couple and it was my first cruise. All of us agreed this cruise was one of our all-time favorite vacations.

We traveled to Cocoa Beach from Indiana and stayed at the International Palms Conference Center. Generally it is not up to our standards (rough around the edges and beds not super comfy) but given our package included parking + shuttle and given the price ($120 per room) and location (practically on the beach!), we will stay there again. We met our shuttle at the parking lot of the Double Tree Hilton and off loaded our baggage and tagged everything with preboarding tags. (It was very handy that we brought a stapler with us!) The shuttle loaded us in a jiffy and we were at the terminal in about ten minutes. .

Once we got to the terminal, they offloaded our bags and porters stacked them onto carts and said they would magically appear outside our cabins in a few hours. We scurried off to get into a line that extended outside the building.

Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

This is personal to me. I hate rich companies buying land then building a wall around it and making it difficult for locals to profit from tourism . Amber Cove is great is you don't care about authenticity. Sorry, but it isn't until you get outside the walls that you see real life. The locals we met were simply wonderful.

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

We spent a week in the area and visited Cape Canaveral a few years ago. It is a very interesting area with lots of attractions.

San Juan

This time we loved just walking around and visiting the old fort on our own and exploring the plaza etc without any guide. Next time however, this is one place we will take the tour to learn more about the history of the place. It will take several visits to come close to getting our fill of San Juan and we are discussing a family vacation just here. Beautiful place and people.

Grand Turk

This experience is much like Amber Cover including the wall. However there is a beach and that is where we played. Also did shopping inside the walls this time. Next time we are making our ESCAPE to see the real island and to support the locals. Do NOT like this wall building business!!!
