Sail Date: Apr 2009

I have sailed on 4 different cruise lines about 10 times.  This was my first trip with Princess.    First I must say that the fact that the entire itinerary was changed to avoid Mexico may have colored my opinion.  I don't think it had too much of an effect, however, as I'm not a big Mexico enthusiast and really enjoy the ship more than the ports.  That being said, I had little desire to cruise to Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara or Catalinaplaces I have visited numerous times.    I felt Princess was just barely mediocre.  The food was only passable. The first night, for example, the salad was served on steaming hot bowls that appeared to be straight out of the dishwasher. Nothing was spiced, very bland.  I figure this was due to the English registry??  We were so much craving spice that the first thing we did when we ever got off the ship was to find a Mexican or Indian restaurant.    The "specialty" restaurant was not much better.  The steak was good, the rest of the meal was the same as the dining room.  It took 2.5 hours to be served 4 courses.  This was with only 5-6 tables full!    The buffet was passable.  The big bins of cold omelets were a turn-off.  The coffee, however, at the specialty coffee bars was excellent.    To top off this 10 day trip, my luggage was lost somewhere between the ship and SF.  I called Princess and was told it would take 4-6 WEEKS before they could even tell me if they had it.  This is ridiculous!  When this happened with Royal Caribbean, I returned home to a message saying they had sent it and it would arrive within two days, and it did!      All in all, we had an OK time.  I'm very upset about my luggage, though.  Practically every item of clothing and shoes I own is in the suitcase.  Ten days is a lot of clothes.    Even though Princess offered 50% off the next cruise as compensation, I will never sail with them again.I would highly recommend RC, Celebrity or even Carnival.

Cabin Review

Noisy location- next to crew closet. Very small shower. Uncomfortable beds.
