Needed to go on a holiday that was not too threatening for a solo person, due to change of circumstances. With help from the excellent Sam Perry who sadly has now left Silversea after many years, I chose a cruise from Venice visiting various ports in Italy, Croatia and Montenegro. My second Silversea experience and I have to say, it was excellent. I felt honoured to meet some wonderful staff on the cruise - particularly Monia and Ira as well as my excellent butler and Jesus his cabin boy. They were so lovely to me. I was really well looked after and the whole experience was very rewarding. I also enjoyed the shows although the lecture theatre on Silver Shadow is superior, this did not detract from the shows. The Italian lady opera singer was superb and her rendition of the history of the Argentinian Tango was excellent. I also found the staff on reception very helpful as well as Barry who assisted over a future booking. Everything was very well organised. The food was really good and we enjoyed the variety of entertainment. I was lucky to meet a like minded group of solo travellers and we regularly met up and ensured that we were all catered for in the evening. The main restaurant was really good, better than on Silver Shadow. La Terrazza was superb for lunch and breakfast but I personally would have preferred more variety in the evening. The really innovative experience for me was dining at Stars which I thoroughly enjoyed and Rico the Cruise Director was a delight as he was very amusing and always happy to chat. I also enjoyed dancing outside on deck when we had the amazing chocolate evening with a variety of chocolate drinks, champagne and the most amazing chocolate desserts and ice creams I have ever seen! Roll on my next trip on Silversea.
The cabins are huge as well as the bathrooms with very snazzy televisions built into the mirror. The balcony is not massive but perfectly large enough. The beds are very spacious and there are chocolates left every night. The given brand for toiletries is Bulgari - excellent in my opinion but there are choices if this does not suit. A lovely spacious walk in wardrobe with safe and drawer space. The only limitation is that if your suitcase doesn't fit under the bed it has to be put under the desk space - not an issue for me. Lots of towels in various sizes as well as robes and slippers. In suite dining is available 24/7 as well as a fridge that is stocked with whatever your tipple is.
Venice was spectactular.
