After our first cruise last year on the Thompson Dream, which we really enjoyed, we booked to go on the Discovery this August. After the ship's first couple of cruises ,we started looking at review sites and have to say we were slightly apprehensive about going due to some of the really bad reviews we read !
So I would like to give a really honest and hopefully helpful review for anyone who is thinking of, or is booked to sail on the Discovery.
Let me start with the negatives, Tui seem to be going for a more informal and family friendly ship and so there seemed to be a lot more children around, which is fine but not when they are left unsupervised to dive and jump around in the pool. This was very off putting for anyone wishing to use the pool, who might want to have a swim without being bombarded with screaming children! Also the pool bar was always very busy and not our cup of tea ! Make sure you get up early on the day at sea if you want to get a sunbed, as the usual towels on sunbeds for the whole day happened!
We were on deck 6,which was close to most things but far enough away to be nice and quiet. We paid for a balcony and I have to say it was lovely to see your port of call coming into view on a morning or to sit with a drink and sail away on an evening. The cabins were clean and had everything you needed-see main review. Just one thing, take some sea sickness tablets if you are not a good traveller, as the ship seemed to move quite a bit on the first night!
