We chose a cruise-stay holiday as our honeymoon, travelling on the Thomson Celebration 'Grecian Legends' cruise, then spending a week on Kalamota Island - we had the time of our lives. Neither of us had ever been on a cruise before and so were apprehensive about boat movement/sea sickness etc. These worries were completely unfounded, there was hardly any motion that we were aware of except for a little bit of choppiness on one night. We had also been lead by others into the mindset that cruises are for older folk and are stuffy and formal. Again, completely untrue! This particular cruise was adults only, but there were a few families with older teenagers on board, the age-range of the 1200 odd passengers was from about 16 to about 90! We met lots of people our own age, many celebrating their anniversaries, and a few also on honeymoon. There was one 'formal' gala evening, and everyone made a special effort to dress really well - some ladies wore cocktail dresses, and the gentlemen were in suits, shirts and jackets or tuxedos, but this wasn't compulsory. The Meridian restaurant has an expectation that men should wear long trousers, but this isn't unusual in our experience in hotel restaurants, so wasn't a big deal.

The ship itself was well kept up together, clean and tidy in good repair. Our cabin was small (as you would expect), but perfectly adequate for our needs - we opted for a deluxe outside cabin in the centre of deck 3 - we could have chosen something more 'upmarket' but didn't see the need. Our chambermaid, Eblin, kept our cabin spick and span for us, making amusing animals out of our towels each day - she was friendly and helpful and always seemed to be there, hardworking girl! The staff all over the ship were solicitous to everyone's needs, taking very good care of all of the passengers and keeping the environment tidy and pleasing. We were serenaded by some of the waiters (Erwin and co) one evening in the Meridian restaurant, much to our embarrassment and their clear delight! The crew were also helpful and friendly, we had the special privilege of meeting and sitting with Captain Jason, a very genuine and entertaining man, on his gala evening, and also some other lovely crew members on the 'Sail Away' from Kotor on the final evening. By far our favourite member of the crew was Elaine, who worked so hard to make our honeymoon extra-special by organising lots of treats for us throughout the week - she really was amazing, and we are so grateful to her for everything she did for us.

We were very impressed with the food and entertainment on board. We had a 'drinks on us' package provided by Thomson which meant that we were essentially AI. There were a few drinks that carried a surcharge, but there was such a huge choice of inclusive options that we didn't miss anything. The food was excellent - so much choice and available all day long. The Lido, a buffet-style restaurant, offered plenty of options, and the Meridian had menus and waiter-service. There were also other a la carte restaurants that were not AI, but we didn't visit them - the food and service was excellent at both of the inclusive options, and we were more than happy with them! The entertainment we caught was of a very high standard, some of the best we have ever seen while on holiday.
