We went with friends on our fifth cruise, second with Celebrity, to the Caribbean last Dec/08 on board the Constellation.Embarkation went very well. Celebrity was, as always, organized and had enough staff to move the line quickly. No problems! Met up with our friends - ah! Vacation Time!We have all cruised before and thought we knew what to expect. But as the trip went along, we did not know WHY, but we knew there was something wrong with this ship. The staff were unhappy, unmotivated, giving out incorrect information...things that just don't happen on a cruise ship. The cabinet in the card room had a broken door and was missing a door knob. We saw furniture that was so old and in such need of repair and replacement, that the upholstery was literally threadbare. What? The ship is only six years old! We never saw anyone clean a swimming pool or a hot tub. The hot tub we sat in one day had dirt in it. Again, you just never see this on a cruise ship. Several people including us, mentioned to the staff that one of the hot tubs was cold. We mentioned it repeatedly for four days before the water became hot. ?My husband ordered me a steamed milk several afternoons in a row, from the Cova Bar outside the card room. Then one day, he ordered the same thing and the woman told him they "didn't sell milk". ? And that was all she did. She just stood there. Very strange. We wondered if there is something wrong with the upper management on the boat, that the staff were so unhappy? Is it due to the 'economic downturn' perhaps tips are down and staff are feeling low? We also had some issues with alternatives to eating in the dining room. The "$2 restaurant" [a portion of the buffet room dressed for dinner service] was good and easy to get a table. However, we would have preferred to simply have the buffet available for dinner as we have had on other cruise lines. There did not seem to be enough variety so I ended up eating way too much salad and pizza for dinners through the trip. [However there was really good cheesecake every day!]Our cabin steward was good and we made the best of our trip and had a good time anyway. But we would not be willing to sail on this ship again. Note: they had a customs delay of a few hours upon returning to the US. The crew did a GREAT job of dealing with this, keeping passengers in the Theatre, seated, and giving regular updates as to what was going on.We are sailing with Celebrity again in a few weeks [different ship!] and hope to be as delighted as we have been in the past.
