Just returned from our first cruise, a14 night Mediterranean cruise on Navigator. We travelled with my son who is 13 and a full time wheelchair user and stayed in cabin 1814, accessible panoramic stateroom on deck 12. We chose a cruise as we wanted it to be easy and stress free with our son and avoid flying with equipment we need to take.

Lovely room, however this is not suitable for 4 people, luggage, wheelchairs and hoists, far to small. We had one small single wardrobe between us, which half was shelving so couldn't hang everything in there. When pull out sofa bed was out we then didn't have room to use the hoist, and either side of bed was not big enough to use a hoist.

As there was no where to put cases ( we had 4), these were stored under the open frame bed, but again this would prevent a hoists feet from going under the bed.

Port Reviews

Gibraltar

Because of the wheelchair we booked a wheelchair accessible taxi through Gib taxis ( manual chair only). Was £150 but he took us up the Rock and we went into st Michaels cave ( lift from entrance just down 1 level, not to bottom), siege tunnels and to see the apes.

Nice

We took a tender to vilefranche. It did take electric chairs, bit hairy, but once off we found pavements not very accessible and we couldn't get to train station without our son being on the road, so we stayed in Villefranche which was very pretty and lovely little beach

Genoa

Looked a bit unwelcoming and dirty. We weren't sure what to see here so hopped on one of the city sightseeing buses outside. Very good value, was about an hour if just sat on there but you can hop off and on. Felt this was best way to see Genoa and get most out of it

Malaga

Just got off and walked around, lovely port area and you can go up to castle or sea bull ring all within 20 mins walk of boat.

Lisbon

Again we took a city sight seeing tour as didn't know much about Lisbon. However this was twice the cost of Genoa and nearly 2 hrs long. Hop on and off idea is good. If you are docked right next to town and square it is only a 10/15 min walk to centre where there are lots of lovely bars and restaurants

Southampton

Very good and easy embarkment
