Sail Date: Aug 2016

I had booked this cruise as a last minute get-away for myself. While the staff was lovely, I had a hard time believing this ship was just 2-3 months out of a major rehab. My (teeny tiny) inside stateroom desperately needed new paint on the ceiling (which had dents in it), new wallpaper (it was stained like someone had sprayed coke on the wall and it dried on there) and a clock (I even asked housekeeping, no clocks in the stateroom). The air conditioning is still not working as it should. While not hot, none of the areas ever made it below temperate. There was rust on the outside of the ship at eye level when tendering in.

Windjammer was a fantastic dining experience for me. The staff was very friendly, there were several options (I loved having a salad bar available), and I could almost always find a window seat.

The itinerary was great: 2 sea days, Grand Cayman (with a very easy tender process) and Key West. I did both ports on my own and had a lovely time. If you sail on the Empress, make sure you take time at night to walk forward on Deck 6 - it's not well lit, so you can see a million stars! I spent 20-30 minutes out there each evening. I did enjoy the number of places I could sit and read and see the ocean inside the ship.

Cabin Review

Cabin inside

The room was very clean and my hostess was good. However, it's TINY and in much need of a renovation. There's no alarm clock in the room and the power plugs are across the room. The ceiling was dented and needed a fresh coat of paint. The wallpaper looked like someone had sprayed coke on it, but hadn't tried to clean it up until after it had stained the wallpaper.

Port Reviews

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

I decided to do a little shopping and have lunch at Margartaville. The food was good and the service was great!
