We choose this cruise mainly because it's original starting port was Istanbul. However due to the Turkish situation and terror threats the embarkation port changed to Athens and the cruise itinerary was altered. This was disappointing as several of the additional ports were quite similar. The ship however was excellent. Decor wise Scandinavian understated elegance, none of the glitz or over the top decor that you get on so many ships. Also the fact that there were no children was a bonus.Mainly over 50's. Viking are also a civilised cruise line where you can actually take your own alcohol on board , no corkage or having it confiscated. This was saved quite a bit as you could purchase duty free at most ports. Also the inclusive drinks at lunch and dinner were good and service seem to last 3 hours each time Free internet and laundry were also excellent.. The actual ports visited were OK, but not long enough in Santorini, but too long in Koper. We only did 2 excursions mainly for convenience of transport but I don't like organised walking tours and it was very easy to do your own thing. Some additional excursions were quite pricey. Entertainment wise was again ok, the spa,no charge was lovely as were the pool areas. Small pools but never crowded and the ship never felt crowded. The staff were excellent and I couldn't fault them. Manfredis was a lovely restaurant and I preferred it to the Chefs Table. Generally meals were of a high quality with several dining options. Guests were mainly American, English and Australian. Embarkation and disembarkation were the fastest of any cruise I've ever been on.Not a cheap cruise but very nice to do.

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe verandah

Lovely spacious cabin, very comfortable bed with beautiful linen. Large screen TV with several satellite programs enabling us to watch the Olympics and even live matches of Australian Rules. Coffee machine was a nice touch and being able to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee on the balcony. Toiletries replenished frequently and good quality. Bathrobes and slippers also in each cabin. Bathroom quite spacious. Bar fridge was replenished each day with cans of soft drink and a small chocolate bar. The fridge was big enough to put in wine or beer as well.
