We decided to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska. I am a review reader. . . .and soon narrowed it down to NCL mainly because of the Freestyle dining. We enjoyed eating when and where we wanted. And not having to dress up. . . Then, narrowed it down to the Jewel, because we wanted an afternoon in Victoria. The only other cruise we have been on was a short Disney cruise with the kids and Grand kids, so I was expecting a real "down grade" in service, etc. But, the Jewel delivered!! The food was fantastic (did 3 nights in specialty restaurants, but the food in every dining room was hot, and yummy), the service was great, the shows in the Stardust were entertaining. And of course, Alaska was amazing.

If I had to point out any negatives, here are two: the carpet in the stateroom was stained and showing its age. They kept it vacuumed, but you can tell it is time to replace it. The carpet in the public areas didn't look so old and dirty. Also, for one of my freebies, I chose the WiFi package in order to send pictures back home to friends and relatives. I wouldn't waste my freebie on that again, as the wifi is so very slow, very very slow that even to log on uses many minutes, and it takes forever to send one email with one photo. Finally we figured out just to wait until we got into port and use our Verizon plan to send and receive emails. It was handy to use the ships wifi at the Internet cafe on the last day to print boarding passes and luggage tags--- that saved us a line at the airport.

We watched lumber jacks in Ketchikan, went whale watching with "Harv and Marv's" in Juneau and did the train/bus tour in Skagway. Loved them all. Also saw the gardens in Victoria, which were lovely, except Victoria was having a heat wave, so it was a humid 90 degrees so not so enjoyable. Also many tour bus loads of visitors to the gardens made it very crowded there.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BB

Loved having a balcony. The steward kept it stocked, cleaned, and turned down in a timely manner. Make sure to bring a power strip, as there are only 2 plugs. Not enough to charge cameras, phones, etc.
