Our first time visiting New Orleans, we went down a day ahead of time which I strongly recommend. We also stayed the day after the cruise because it is a beautiful town. We stayed at the Hampton Inn across from the Convention Center. Free hot breakfast, Free shuttle, Beautiful Hotel. Coming back we stayed at the AC Marriott Hotel, Not so good. No shuttle, No Free Breakfast, Hotel was very contemporary and minimal ( felt like something out of the Jetsons). The printer was broken so we couldn't print out tour and flight confirmations. There were 4 of us and 3 towel sets, we never did receive the extra towels we requested several times. We did pay $15 per person for breakfast but it was a European style breakfast of fancy pastries no hot food.

We rented a car because a cab ride was $60 for the 4 of us. A rental of a small SUV was only $52 per day. No brainer there however, unlike with the free parking at the Hampton Inn, parking at the AC Marriott was $16 per day and get this, unless you did Valet which was $34 per day, you had to park on the 6th floor or above and there was no elevator. The inclines were at least 65 degrees. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride! Must do one of the food tours or the Steamship Natchez!!

The Carnival Dream was a very large ship which is something we were excited about. This was our second cruise so we were very excited because the Carnival Freedom was amazing. First thing I noticed was the terrible smell from the water system onboard. I know this because my sister has well water and when she needs to add more water softener the smells exactly the same. That smell was on and off, mostly on all of the cruise. Then when we went to our stateroom there were towels hung in our bathroom that had stains on them. They did fix this immediately. The adjoining door to our kids room had several missing screws so the handle almost fell off while we were opening the door. That took 3 calls and a day and a half to be repaired. We were reimbursed $11 each. The refrigerator did not get very cold in one room so we cooled our water in the kids room. By that time I did not want to complain because I just wanted to enjoy the cruise.
