We had a great week on the Magic, travelled with a group of 22 family members for a reunion cruise. We drove to the port and parked off-site and took a free shuttle to the ship. The week began with a smooth embarkation at Port Canaveral. The lines when we arrived (around 12:30pm) were very long but moved steadily and we were heading up to Lido in no time.

I really liked the overall layout of the Magic, the outdoor Promenade on deck 5 was my favorite place to sit and watch the sea roll by, lots of deck chairs and few people. The ship seemed to be very full and there were lots of other large groups (you can tell by the matching t-shirts!). The crowding in the Lido Marketplace for breakfast and lunch was probably my only complaint. With so many people on board finding a seat, silverware and drinking cups was a challenge at certain times of day.

I think the food and service was very good, especially in the Southern Lights Dining Room - our waiter had a challenge since we were all changing seats between our two tables yet he had our names down by the 2nd night and got our large orders correct all the time!

Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

The port area was very nice, new and clean. We did not take an excursion and obviously not a lot of others did either since the pool area was VERY crowded. Use of the pool and chairs is free but nothing else is including umbrellas which were $15. We walked around for a bit and then returned to the ship to enjoy the aft pool which was not crowded at all and get some lunch.

Perhaps if we had taken an excursion we would have enjoyed this port more but not a port I enjoyed at all.
