Just got off the Grandeur three days ago. We have been on numerous cruises, We were on the Grandeur in 2005. There are a lot of positive things that I can say about this ship and a few critical things so I'll say the critical things first. It is an older ship and while it is very beautiful there are a few things that could be updated. First let's get rid of the tiny standard tv's and the old style shower stalls. The little creaks in the cupboards and little chips in the mirrors didn't bother us. In 2004 when I read reviews of this ship a number of people complained about a bad smell on the ship. We did not smell anything in 2005 when we were on the Grandeur but we sure did this time. The staff was nice but impersonal. It looked as if they had fewer employees doing as much work as before so they didn't have time to schmooze with customers.

We have been cruising on the really huge ships for the past few years (which we loved) but even more we love the outside dining area of the windjammer(casual dining area) instead of sitting inside in the air conditioning when floating around the caribbean. In addition, the design on this ship is much more efficient. There are four openings to move 2000 people in and out of the Windjammer instead of one revolving door to move 3600 people on the bigger ships. The food was really exceptional on this cruise and the entertainment was the best on any cruise that we've been on. There were two gents that simply played violin and guitar in the dining room and they were amazing. Another thing that we really enjoyed was the fact that we were not being given a sales pitch every moment of this cruise. There have been cruises that I expected Billy Mays to step out of our closet to sell us some mighty putty or something. This cruise was pretty non-harrassing in the sales department. This really is a beautiful ship. The solarium is as fresh and beautiful as if it was built yesterday. There are beautiful marble accents throughout and lovely art pieces everywhere. The formal dining room is also very lovely.

In Cozumel we went to our favorite place Passion Island talk about relaxing. Jamaica is a great place to shop for bargains. Dominican Republic is wild and beautiful with amazing beaches. We went to the rain forest in Puerto Rico, it was wet and time consuming but nice.
