Cabin: Oceanview (obstructed view)

I picked this cruise for the itinerary and it did not disappoint. While we missed two ports (Dublin and the Orkney Islands), the rest of the stops were terrific. This was the first time that we did not get a balcony room-we were in a cabin with an obstructed view and it worked out well. The weather was too cold to really use the balcony on this trip. The bathroom is very small but there was enough room in the cabin to move around and the storage space was very good. We ate in both of the specialty restaurants and enjoyed them very much. We used AnyTime Dining and never had a problem getting into any of the Dining Rooms when we wanted to, even without reservations. The food was average in the main dining rooms. We only used the ship's excursions once-we used their bus to take us into Paris. As for the other ports, we took tours with local companies or walked around on our own.

Guernsey-walked around on our own

Cork-took the ECoach tour to Blarney Castle

Cabin Review

Oceanview (obstructed view)

Cabin OW

The cabin was bigger than I was expecting and it had a lot of good storage room. Even though we had an obstructed view, you could see the ocean fairly well. Being on the 8th deck right by the life boats, we did hear some of the noise moving them when we had tender ports. The bathroom is really small but manageable.

Port Reviews

St. Peter Port (Guernsey)

Pretty town. Walked around and saw the Castle Cornet. Had a great lunch in town.

Cobh (Cork)

Really liked this port. We took a tour with ECoach to Blarney Castle and Kinsdale. Got to see the pretty countryside.

Belfast

This was a really interesting place. We spent much of our time driving around the countryside, seeing the Giant's Causeway and the Antrim Coast. We did drive through Belfast on our way back to the ship and it was interesting to see the gates still in place that separate the Catholics and the Protestants.

Greenock (Glasgow)

Took a private tour with Timberbush to Troussards National Forest, Loch Lomond, and Stirling Castle. Got to feed the Highland Cattle, which was a highlight of the day. Was dropped off in Edinburgh to attend the Tattoo, which was terrific.

Invergordon (Inverness)

Tour a private tour with Wow Scotland to see Brodie Castle and Loch Ness.

Edinburgh (South Queensferry)

Took the local train in to Edinburgh. Very easy to do and not hard to find. Spent the day walking around and went to Edinburgh Castle. It was very crowded as the Tattoo and Festival were both going on in August. Would have enjoyed it more if the crowds hadn't been so bad.
