Sail Date: Aug 2016

My family and I just got back from our Western Caribbean cruise on Saturday. This was our second time sailing on the Oasis of the seas, having first sailed in June 2010, and our 5th Royal Caribbean cruise overall. Royal Caribbean has always been my family's favorite cruise line and we always preferred it over Carnival and Norwegian but this time around there were some noticeable changes that made us question what was going on with RCCL.

Let me start with the positive. Embarkation was a breeze, we were on the ship in no time at all. The ship itself is absolutely beautiful, especially the Central park and Boardwalk area. The second you walk in you forget that you are on a ship and feel like you are in a small city. The food onboard was good it had a good variety of food for lunch and Dinner. The activities onboard during the day were also good although, the pool, flo-rider, and zipline were extremely crowded. The most positive feedback I have from my trip is the outstanding service we received. Our room attendant was very friendly from the start. He always greeted us when we walked passed him and he always left our room clean and with an occasional animal made from towels. Our waiters on board could not have been better. Every night they tried to exceed their service from the night before and did anything in their power to provide us with the best dining experience (they succeeded). Our dinner always arrived fast and they were constantly making sure we didn't need anything else. We formed a bond with them and it was bittersweet to say goodbye to them on the last night. Throughout our trip we only book one shore excursion on board the ship, Dunn's River Falls in Falmouth Jamaica, The excursion took us to Dunn's River Falls as well as a private beach and it was well worth the money we spent on it. Another perk, the 24 hour pizza from Sorrentos and the food from Café Promenade that served those who craved a late night snack.

Now lets talk about the negative. The ship was crowded. When you go to the buffet area during a busy time you need to make a line outside and wait for a table to be ready. We have never had to make a line for a table and we felt the line just made the ship feel more crowded. As i mentioned earlier the pool was extremely crowded, especially during the days at sea. Next, there were several crew members that were unable to help us with questions. When we first arrived, we asked a staff member if he knew were our muster station was and he said he didn't know, that should have been the first clue that something was off, how are you supposed to help someone in the case of an emergency if you don't know where their muster station is? Furthermore, the cruise director lacked enthusiasm and charisma. When we sailed in 2010 our cruise director was Richard Spacey and he was amazing. This cruise director was dull. There were not enough activities onboard the ship at night and if there were they only lasted like 20 minutes. When my family and I sailed on the Norwegian Getaway in 2014 there were activities every night and the cruise director and staff made the ship fun. Other things missing on the ship were the midnight buffet and the souvenier glasses for drinks. Now they serve your drinks in a plastic cup. I didn't pay much attention to these changes until the last day when I went to use my card onboard the ship and it said it was not active. I waited inline to speak to someone at guest services who advised me to speak to m credit card company. I did and they assured me that everything was fine with my card. The lady from guest services said their was still a problem with my card and said she will activate it so that I could make purchases on the ship but that she would contact the Financials department to see what the issue was. I thought everything was fine until later that night I tried to make a purchase and again I was unable to. I made a line once again at Guest Services this time for over an hour because it was past 12 am and they only have 2 people working past 2 am ( this was said to me by the man working at guest services) The line was full of people with issues on their account, many of them unhappy with the service being provided and the lack of a supervisor. When it was finally my turn the man who was assisting me didn't know what was going on with my card. Frustrated, I asked him if I could just pay off the balance with another card and I was able to pay off the balance.
