It was to have been a gift for a key company manager and husband to go with my wife and I. Her mother died days before the Cruise, and they had to go home for the final couple days followed by the funeral. We did not take insurance. The customer support office in LA representative made it sound like we had to be punished for not buying their insurance. They would make no effort to resell and would not allow us to find replacement folks despite the fact that I had paid them over $20,000. I never asked for nor expected a refund. The young fellow I dealt with was inexperienced and I even had to hang up once as he was yelling at me. He lied to me at least twice and likely three times. I lodged complaints and even gave a negative review of the company, but I was never contacted by anyone from Viking.
My son had a similar occurrence with Disney this year and they approved a replacement cruise next September. WOW now that was class, but it certainly was Disney not Viking.
The Cruise itself was fine. The staff were very attentive and pleasant, the cabin very nice although we used the balcony very little. The stops were well organized and once again well done. I particularly enjoyed the Audie Murphy WW II tour. The entertainment was fairly quiet later in the evening with a live piano playing crooner, and some dancing. With just under 200 on board it was nice getting to know people. They were efficient, everything was clean and the food was good. We will not do it again as there was major emphasis on churches and cathedrals and I have over the years seen enough of both. Amsterdam was great.
Spent three days in Amsterdam before boarding Viking. Great time.
Did self tour of the neighboring shopping area.
Walked ashore, was raining so did not go far.
Went for a walk around the neighbouring area where the ship stopped.
