Alaska was a "bucket list" thing for me so I did this cruise as a "Cruise Next" deal when I was on the Norwegian Getaway in the Caribbean. I originally booked a normal balcony cruise but after doing a little research, I found upgrading to a Penthouse Suite was worth the money, especially because NCL included all the additional packages (dinner, drink, excursion, internet) with that room. I chose stateroom 10500 on Deck 10, overlooking the front of the ship and just below the bridge which provides stunning views. The only downside is that its too windy to be out on the balcony when the ship is running full steam but there are plenty of other places to go during those times or just look through the window. Note there is a heavy-duty hatch on these forward facing balconies - I only mention that because its not just a little sliding door like on other balconies but I had no problem using it.
Embarkation - because 10500 is a penthouse suite, you get the full VIP treatment which is much more enjoyable than the "normal" process for regular staterooms so this process was fantastic. By the way, I highly recommend going into Seattle the day before and staying at the Marriott Waterfront because its a short walk to Pier 66 to board the ship plus its in walking distance of Pike Place Market or even the Space Needle (or just take an Uber). This stateroom is incredible. I have pictures that I hope I can post with this review.
Monday (at sea all day): We ran into some pretty rough seas on the way up to Juneau and some of our friends got very sea sick and had to go down to the medical center for a shot which cost $400 per person. The rough seas did not affect me but it was interesting to say the least and nothing like the waters of the Caribbean. I was able to sleep through it just fine, even in my forward suite - which I've heard can be "bumpier". Some other friends of mine who have been susceptible to sea sickness in the past said the worst rooms are AFT rooms, then FWD rooms and MID section rooms are the most stable.
Absolutely loved it. Not a negative thing to say at all.
Small fishing town, we just got off and walked around town.
Words cannot not describe just how incredible this was.
I enjoyed the port of Seattle. I highly recommend staying at the Marriott Waterfront before and/or after the cruise.
A very pretty town, we just got off the ship and wandered around but could have done without stopping here.
