Cabin & Guest Services

Cabin #7245 was impossible to sleep in due to a vibrating ceiling that made a constant ticking noise while the boat was in motion. See our cabin review for more. Anyways this is where we had the bulk of our problems onboard. We called after the second night of the cruise and someone was sent to investigate. He agreed the noise would make it difficult to sleep and returned with an engineer. They said they would have to take the ceiling down and would have to do it the next day when they had more time (it was nearing 6pm). Worried about having another less than 4 hours of sleep that night we went to guest services and asked about possibly getting an hour of full internet (we only had purchased the social plan) to download an ambient noise app. We were told no but offered industrial-style ear plugs instead. We reluctantly accepted as this was the best option. The earplugs were highly uncomfortable and we once again had another terrible sleep. In Puerto Vallarta for an overnight stop, we were told by guest services the repairs didn't take that long (around 20 minutes) and that it was no big issue, which made us wonder why they couldn't have repaired it the day they were alerted to it. It was at this point we asked for compensation for two nights of terrible sleep, we asked twice that day what they were going to do and they said they were still discussing it. Since we were docked overnight, there was no issue, but once the boat left Puerto Vallarta the next day, it started again. We alerted guest services again and was told they would investigate again. At this point we were also alerted we would be receiving $111.00 in total for two of us in compensation for the two nights we complained about. This was supposedly 'standard,' even though they could not give us this answer when we asked twice the day before. This was completely unacceptable to us and at this point used our social internet plan to reach out to Carnival on land using twitter (This helped a lot).

Long story short, they could not repair our original room and offered us an upgrade as 'someone' had to get off the ship (a lie, the room was empty the entire time as the original embarkation Fun Times booklet was there and confirmed by our new steward). We were also offered close to $400 in compensation. The upgraded room was a corner suite (4228) at the back of the boat, which was amazing, but most importantly did not make noise. How guest services treated us on this vacation was unacceptable. They attempted to make this sound as if we were making a big deal out of a non-issue, and I believe they would not have done anything had we not contacted Carnival on twitter. I believe they thought we were trying to exploit them into giving us free stuff, however this could not be further from the truth as we felt we were getting the raw end of the deal from them. We have been on three other ships and none of our cabins have ever made it impossible to sleep at night. Whenever we approached guest services after the tweets from twitter had been sent, we were treated completely different than those guests who had been served in front of us. We were blacklisted by guest services.

Cabin 8E

Do not book this room. When we booked this cabin, we were worried about noise coming from the outside in the hallways, due to its position between the mid-ship stairwell & elevators but this was never a problem. However, there was noise in the cabin that made it nearly impossible to sleep. When the boat was moving there was a constant 'ticking' noise in the ceiling above the beds. The closest thing that I could say the sound resembled was a sewing machine. The noise went away when pressure was placed on the ceiling from below but once released the noise returned. Crew attempted to repair, but noise returned after leaving an overnight port. It was a great cabin location, great balcony and there was hardly any noise from the halls. Without the ceiling making it impossible to get a good night's sleep in, it would be a great choice of cabin. However due to this, I would not recommend it, especially for light sleepers.
