I chose this cruise because Canadian David Williams, a wonderful pianist/vocalist/composer, was guest entertainer. I met him when he was performing on Sea Princess approx 12 years ago and we have been in touch ever since, mainly whilst sailing the high seas on many of the Princess ships but also by email when David has sent a diary of his many voyages around the world. His music changed my life at a time when I was in a very, very dark place. He certainly raised my spirits and we have become really good friends. My family here in England love him too.

The Royal was cruising in Italy and the Greek Islands which we have visited many times so a booking was inevitable. The ship was absolutely beautiful with wonderful shows and excellent food. In keeping with the very high standards on all the Princess ships, staff were always immaculately presented, impeccably mannered and they always offered the very best possible service, always with a smile - nothing was too much trouble. The Captain and his officers thankfully kept us safe and had to make a detour to avoid Turkey. The shows were of a very high standard with excellent choreography and singing. Needless to say, the three concerts "David Williams in Concert" and his late evening sessions in the Crooner's Lounge were absolutely superb with a wide variety of music to suit all tastes. The lounges, restaurants, pools, etc were superb, as was the beautiful atrium.

My only criticisms were the very small cabin (room A712 on Alhoa deck which had to accommodate a folded wheelchair) and the very long walks between facilities/activities. Like many fellow guests, I felt the ship was too big. Surprisingly, although there were over 4,000 guests, no areas were overcrowded though the theatres filled up very quickly. I think directions around the ship could include arrows at strategic points because members of staff, although desperate to help, were not always aware of the lay-out of the wonderful ship.
