We chose Emerald Waterways on the basis of a glossy brochure and website and were not disappointed for this, our first, river cruise.

Transfer arrangements from and to the airport were excellent. Embarking we were welcomed by the captain and cruise director with a drink. Luggage had already being taken to our cabin. The cabin was reasonably spacious (180 sq ft) and well equipped. We rarely took advantage of the panoramic balcony window but it does make the cabin light and airy.

The food was excellent with plenty of choice; breakfast and lunch were buffets and most dinners were waiter-served. Regional dishes were offered and the complimentary wine with lunch and dinner changed daily and was often from the area we were travelling through. Read more
