This was my 14th cruise, first with Celebrity. 11 have been with Holland America, and 2 with Royal Carribean. I expected it to be similar to Holland America, but was sadly disappointed. The room was small, but well laid-out, and the two of us had no problem finding enough storage space. The only thing I noted in the room (because I noted similar aged-look things in other parts of the ship) is that our mirror was peeling all around the bottom. It was clean, and the beds were very comfortable.

We did not have a room-service menu in our room, so I had to request one. They brought two, and they were completely different. We ordered off the one that had the most variety. That night, again, no room-service menu, so requested one again. This one was different yet again--lots of great choices! We happily ordered breakfast from this menu. Third night, you guessed it, no room-service menu. I called and asked for the one that we had had that morning and was told "There is only one breakfast room service menu!" Clearly that was not true, as we had already seen three different ones. They sent a stack of them--the ones with little variety...sigh...the choice of eggs was scrambled eggs or a plain omelet. She finally admitted that we had gotten a menu that was intended for the suites, and that there was indeed more than one--duh!

Lunch in the buffet--ummm...let's just say that there needs to be some better organization. I went to a salad bar first (there are two or three nearly identical ones in the buffet). First you get your plate, then the next thing in line is your salad dressing, kept cool on a chilled area. That's nice, but I have no salad yet--put the dressing at the end! Now you get your lettuces--I will say that they were always fresh and always well-stocked. Then you move on to the multiple containers of veggies, nuts, etc. Heaven help you if you want something from the back row, because the tongs will be several inches short of reaching the back row. People were ducking under the sneeze guard to get items from the back row! I'm 5'8", so reach is not normally an issue for me. Once your salad has been assembled, now you have to remember to go back to the beginning to get your dressing... The "Gourmet Entrees" areas weren't bad. I was surprised at the amount of Indian food, which I enjoyed. The tongs were very hard to use--it requires a lot of strength to close them, so people were flinging food all over the buffet when the tongs got the better of them. I spotted baked potatoes one day--although there is steak available at dinner, there was NEVER baked potatoes on the dinner menu in the dining room, so to find some at lunch was a treat! Along with baked potatoes though, you would expect to find at a minimum butter and sour cream. Nope, nowhere to be found, at least not at the station I was at. One of the kitchen staff got some sour cream for me and brought it to my table.

Port Reviews

Icy Strait

It's owned by locals and everything is within an easy walk of the ship. I enjoyed the museum and shops.

Juneau

Beautiful scenery and I've taken some wonderful excursions on prior cruises to Alaska. I hate seeing the Caribbean jewelers taking over the shops, forcing the local shops out of business. I refuse to shop at those stores, and look specifically for a local business, especially one that's been around a long time. I did take the tram to the top of Mt. Robert. Nice that the pass is good all day, but I only went up once. The movie was good and the shop was ok, but I thought it high-priced for what it was.

Ketchikan

Again, the Caribbean jewelers are spoiling this wonderful port. I couldn't find Ketchicandies, which I was specifically looking for. Turns out they've moved to a new mini-mall location and were closed that day when four ships were in port. Strange way to run a store...

Vancouver

We didn't have time to do much in Vancouver except to park and get into the terminal. I always enjoy Vancouver though--beautiful city!
