This was our fourth RCCL cruise, sixth cruise overall. We've been on the Mariner OTS, the Oasis and the Allure. We were looking for a short (five day) cruise to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, neither the Oasis nor the Allure offer shorter cruises, so we chose the EOS.

We live just 30 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale, so we much prefer leaving out of there, but there weren't any short cruises that left out of FLL so we left out of Miami. Haven't been to the Port of Miami since our honeymoon, 30 years ago, and I found, through Cruise Critic, that there is now a tunnel that makes it easier to get to. It would've been nice if the RCCL had told us, because neither Map Quest, my car's GPS program, or our phone's GPS told us how to get there that way.

We arrived at the port around 12:30. Signs for the port were very confusing, and we missed where we had to go the first time, but once we found it, it was easy to drop off our bags and then park the car in the garage that was right across from the pier.

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D2

We stayed in room 7130, port side. Waking up in Nassau overlooking the streets was not a good view. Next time, I'll get a starboard room. At night, it was very loud, the music from the Centrum when they had a 70's party was quite loud. It was more noticeable from the balcony. Don't know whether it was our upstairs neighbors, or the chairs in the Solarium near the Park Cafe, that was on top of us on the 9th floor, but outside on the balcony you could hear chairs scraping very loudly.

The room is small, but there is more than enough storage space, in the closet, in the room and in the bathroom. The room was tired looking, the curtain had a tear in it, the sliding door to the balcony was extremely difficult to open and close, the outside of the balcony, on the floor, was patched in areas. The lock on the sliding door made a clicking noise that was very loud at night, and was very distracting when trying to sleep. When we first arrived, it was FREEZING in the room! We cranked the air all the way up (or down, depending on how you look at it), but it was marked in Celsius so that made it a little confusing. It took two days for the temperature to normalize. We called and asked them to look at it, but I don't know if anyone ever came.

There are only two electrical outlets in the whole room, none in the bathroom, two plugs on the desk. They confiscated my extension cord because it had multiple plugs, and my power strip, even though it was not a surge suppressor.

There weren't enough hangars, but our room steward brought more promptly.

Port Reviews

Miami

Haven't been to the Port of Miami since our honeymoon, 30 years ago, and I found, through Cruise Critic, that there is now a tunnel that makes it easier to get to. It would've been nice if the RCCL had told us, because neither Map Quest, my car's GPS program, or our phone's GPS told us how to get there that way.

Getting to the tunnel was simple. Once we got through the tunnel, the directions as to how to get to the pier were very confusing. We took several wrong turns, but then ended up in the right place. It was easy to drop off our luggage and then park right across the street. Parking was $20 a day.

Nassau

I spent a lot of time researching the various places we could go on a day pass while in Nassau, and I was pretty torn because I had read lots of conflicting reviews about the various places. In the end, we decided to go to Breezes Resort. It's $85 for an all inclusive day. You put down a $20 deposit, and pay $65 per person when you get there.

We took a cab that cost us $15 for the both of us, it was easy to get a cab right when you come out of the building in Nassau. There is also a bus for $1.25 but we didn't want to do that. Coming back, there are lots of cabs right at the resort, so that was easy also.

On Trip Advisor they recommend against going to Breezes during spring break, which, frankly, the website itself also warns about. Since we were going in the middle of August, I did not think that this would be a problem, and it wasn't . Here on Cruise critic, there were several conflicting reviews, but we decided to go anyway. Frankly, it was one of the highlights of our cruise.

The beach was beautiful. Very clean, and the water was crystal clear. We did not use the pool, but the people who did seem to be having a good time. During the day, they were a number of activities that you could participate in, but we chose to just stay on the beach, where it was quieter, and just enjoy the sand and the water. We were able to get one of those clam shell type covers and two lounge chairs that are included in the price. There were also a few things that you could use on the beach for no extra charge, and I really liked the float device that had a viewing window so you could see into the water without having to use a snorkel and goggles.

I love the fact that this was all inclusive, and that we were able to have all of the food and drinks that we wanted. I especially liked that they had a machine with frozen pina coladas and strawberry daiquiri mix, which I enjoyed with and without liquor throughout the day for no extra charge.

The grill served first, and the hamburger was very tasty. The buffet did not open until 12:30, and the selection was not exactly as pictured, and the food was OK, but we certainly got enough to eat. The buffet is inside but you could eat outside if you wanted. The air conditioning inside was a nice relief.

The next day, we spent the day at Coco Cay and I could honestly say, the beach, the ocean, and the overall experience at Breezes was much better.

I would definitely recommend this resort on a day pass, and we will definitely come back next time our cruise stops in Nassau.

Key West

When we first saw that the ship stops at Key West, we were amused. Living in South Florida, it seemed funny to take a ship to a place we drive to, albeit it's a long drive from the Fort Lauderdale area. But we hadn't been to Key West in over ten years, so we thought it would be fun to re-visit there, without the hassle of driving down. It was!

We got off the ship, the pier is right near where most of the shops are. There are lots of little galleries, which we enjoy browsing, lots of restaurants and bars, and lots of little shops that have cute merchandise.

We were prepared that we were unable to get off the ship until everyone cleared customs, and that was much less of a hassle than we expected.

We got off the ship around 11, and managed to find things to do there until 5! We had a nice lunch, visited quite a few of the bars, found lots of things to buy, and just enjoyed people watching and walking around. It is too bad that the ship doesn't stay until after sunset, so we could enjoy sunset in Mallory Square, but it sure was a nice little visit.
