We are a family of 3 -- adults in our 40s and our 8 year old son. This was our family's first cruise and my first cruise in a very long time. We always take a family mini vacation at this time of year, usually traveling to a resort in Florida. We are avid travelers and like to mix up our vacation experiences -- from camping in a tent, to enjoying a 5 star resort, to activity packed theme parks, to bareboat sailing trips. This year we decided to try something new and went with a mini-cruise.

Having read mixed reviews about the Sky, our expectations were tempered optimism. By the end our trip we had booked a repeat cruise for December (taking 4 day off our annual Disney vacation), booked a trip on the Getaway, and purchased another cruise next voucher. Oh and since then we added another cruise for this year's spring break. We just loved this experience!

Here are some of the reasons we are now hooked on cruising as a family vacation option.

Cabin Review

Family Oceanview Large Porthole Window

Cabin O2

Small but adequate. Ok to be honest, our tent is bigger than this cabin. So we are talking small but it was only a weekend and it was OK. The location was great --- with everything close by. That said we booked an aft balcony for December because we do need a bit more space.

Port Reviews

Nassau

Nassau was fun. We went to Clifton National Park. The seas were too rough for snorkeling, but the views were amazing and it was a great quiet day for all of us.

Great Stirrup Cay

Awesome private island. Best snorkeling of the trip! Lunch was very good.

Miami

Here's the one place we made a mistake. We drove over in the morning rather than driving down the night before. Never again! What should be an easy 3 hour drive was a 5 1/2 hour ordeal with 1 road closure, 1 major accident, and lots of traffic. While we have driven to Miami many times and we never worried about the traffic. when you are trying to get to a ship that will leave without you, it adds a whole new layer of stress. Take it from us -- if you are from Florida get a hotel room the night before it will start your cruise off on a much better foot.
