We recently completed both a Westbound and Eastbound Transatlantic on Queen Mary, the first of which was immediately after the refit and the second was a month later. Here is a comparison of both crossings and my overall opinion .
OUR CABIN
We had a sheltered balcony on Deck 5 on both crossings, Westbound mid-ship on Portside and our Eastbound cabin was starboard towards the aft. Both cabins were noisy. The port side balcony had a drain on it and this make a constant banging sound which made the balcony very annoying. Maintenance came along and stuffed fabric into the drain and although it reduced the noise it resulted in a flood on our balcony – as they predicted. Although we had no drain on our balcony on the Eastbound we could hear the constant noise so it wasn’t far away. There was also a vibration all the time which our friends in a mid-ship cabin actually found intolerable and requested a move. We wouldn’t have a sheltered balcony again as when you were sitting you could see nothing except the white metal.
