Two years ago we sailed on Carnival. This was SO MUCH BETTER.
The level of service was outstanding. The staff were always friendly and anticipated our needs. I never had to ask for anything twice. The embarkation and disembarkation were smooth as were the transfers to and from Vancouver airport. We were a group of 5 and my grandmother needed a wheelchair so I was anticipating a bit of chaos boarding but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Customs at Vancouver was a bit chaotic but that's to be expected since a Holland America ship was also in port that day.
The ship is 15 years old and shows it in places. But the cabin, shared spaces, and dining areas were immaculate. I don't think a piece of rubbish stayed on the tables or floors for more than 2 minutes. It was very impressive.
There were three adults sharing the cabin so it was understandibly a bit tight. The sofa bed was comfortable and we were able to maneuver around each other without too much trouble. There's not much they can do about it but it was tough to open the door to the cabin with the closet doors or bathroom door open at the same time. We bumped into each other a few times but it wasn't anything too bothersome!
The room was incredibly quiet. I'm impressed at how well they soundproofed the walls. The bathroom was small but functional and the shower pressure was excellent. The only annoying thing were the hooks on the door. The bath towels kept falling off of them (they were small round pegs) until my Nana ingeniously used the small loop on the towel to hang them. We had no problems after that.
Overall the room was clean, the attendants friendly and responsive and everything was in working order. They fixed a hinge on the closet door the first day without us asking! I don't think I would have even noticed it otherwise.
I didn't see much of the port since it was embarkation day but the terminal was nice and the town seemed neat from the drive over.
This is an adorable picturesque town. There were activities but we decided to troll around instead. Cute little town!
