Sail Date: Jul 2016
Cabin: Owner's Suite with Balcony

Four nights was probably just the right amount for this ship. We had a suite (the room itself was just a bit bigger than a regular room on other ships) but saw other cabins and they were very tiny. The (regular) room size pushed a lot of people into the public spaces and this coupled with the heat made for some grumpy travelers. The nightly entertainment put smiles back on peoples faces. There weren't a ton of interesting daytime activities other than the usual shopping seminars / bingo / casino games but the cruise director staff had a few nighttime activities that were well attended and enjoyable.

The food was what we expected but heard a few complaints. It was lower-end quality (ex. Denny's or Pizza Ranch type) but I never expect gourmet. We only ate in the Windjammer once but left in a hurry when the person behind us got sick (not the cruise's fault - probably too much heat + alcohol). We ate in Chops one night and were pleased - it was steak-house quality food.

Coco Cay was very nice but from what I've gathered from the crew the Empress will no longer be using this as an excursion site. Too bad. It was very mellow. We did kayaking in Key West in the morning and that was enjoyable too.

Cabin Review

Owner's Suite with Balcony

Cabin OS

Larger than average (for this ship) room but not opulent by any means. The shower was a decent size (with tub) and there was a lot of drawer / closet space. Not a lot of surface area for anything (taken up with coffee maker, phone, etc.) What made this a very nice room was the large forward balcony with 2 lounges, side table, and larger table with 4 chairs. Excellent viewing / relaxing area with some shade available on hot afternoons.
