Overall this was a great cruise, particularly for first-timers to Hawaii because it provides a quick look at all the major islands. For context, this was our fist time cruising Norwegian - our previous cruises (3) were all on Carnival. The process was very well organized by Norwegian and the ship was run very well and professionally. The staff was attentive and quick to respond to all requests (other than dining, which I'll get to momentarily). It was a much quieter ship than Carnival, with less 'party' atmosphere and more of a focus on the cruise experience; another words, less drunk people staggering about and the kids were not allowed to run wild around the ship. Entertainment was good and the live shows were outstanding. The shore excursions were overpriced, but based on our experience this has been true on our other cruises as well. Now to my only major criticism, which keeps this from getting a top rating - the food was not very good compared to our experiences on Carnival, and the service left a lot to be desired. Waiters focused on large groups in an attempt to sell them alcohol, and single individuals or couples were the last to get any attention and the last to get waited on or served even if they came in before the larger groups - I witnessed this time and time again in all of the dining rooms that we ate in. The quality of the food (ingredients and taste) was not equal to what I'd expect to get in an average chain restaurant and certainly not what one expects on a cruise ship. Some of the meals were cold, or lukewarm at best by the time we received them, and this is a health issue as well. In summary, I'd recommend this cruise but be aware of what you are getting into - if your primary concern is the dining experience then I'd look elsewhere.
