Fourth time in 5 years on Summit. SADLY, NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE. First time was an upscale experience. Seemed very average this time around. No longer a "special" atmosphere. Over the years they have removed the last sea day special buffet in the MDR. No more champagne and cake recognition ceremony for those celebrating anniversaries. No more "enrichment" events each day by a guest speaker brought on for the week. No more day passes sold for the Persian Garden, etc. A photograph is now $25!!
Quality and variety of entertainment in the theater and around the ship was lackluster and disappointing. The BEST part were the Canadian Bagpiper Group, who were not even scheduled to entertain, as they were heading to Bermuda for an event. Unfortunately, they were cut off by the Cruise Director, who was ignorant to the fact that Bagpipers have a "processional cadence" upon exiting, in a formation. Just as the drummer was signaling the exit, they started blasting ABBA's "Dancing Queen" to start the evening poolside event. The bagpipers just stopped and walked away. They had filled the pool deck and above with people cheering after every song. My husband and I were mortified by the disrespect shown to the Bagpipers. To boot, the pool deck cleared quickly when the dance music began!! Shame, Shame!!
Seems like more people are choosing "anytime dining". The waits were long and I believe this slowed the dining room down for the early seating. The 1st night is always a bit hectic, but on the 2nd night we sat at our table for 55 minutes for our first course of soup/salad. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. There was no pampered feeling, just that of a customer in an average restaurant. Did they cut staff and give the remaining staff more tables to manage??? SADLY, the worst dining experience of the four Summit trips. After the 2nd night we did not go back.
