Wanted to sail on the new Scenic 'Spaceship' boats and have not visited Czech Republic or Hungary before. Arranged our own pre-cruise visit to Prague and used a different hotel (Hotel Augustine) from Scenic pre-cruise tour (Marriott). Also arranged our own private excursions and transfer. The Scenic Amber is new and a remarkable river boat. We had a Royal Balcony Suite and loved the layout. Thought the public areas were well designed but felt a little crowed at times. The excursions were standard for the Danube. The food was very good overall but a bit boring at lunchtime. The meals were at set times and on some days the schedule felt rushed. The staff/crew were excellent in all areas. Evening entertainment in the lounge was locally focused and enjoyable. The crew show was hilarious. One disappointment was the Tailormade devices they used on excursions. Too many people struggled with the technology. All inclusive is the way to go. We also arranged are own post-cruise tour staying at the Gresham Palace instead of Scenic's choice, the Marriott. One area of concern was the number of crew available in the dining room at lunchtime. When four excursion buses returned at the same time the dining room and waitstaff were swamped.
