I have cruised with carnival over 10 times in the past 7 years. I took a few on the Elation and Fantasy. I cruised once on the Sunshine and the Dream. This will be my second AND LAST cruise on the Triumph. We had problems the first cruise we made on the Triumph back in 2010. The ship was stalled in the Gulf of Mexico for a week after a fire back in 2013. I was told that the ship spent 2 years in dry dock being "renovated, repaired, and updated". I would better describe it as being cleaned and fire damage repaired. This ship has not been updated since the early 90s. The first complaint is that the room again did not have sufficient air. We were not 90 degrees but it wasn't comfortable. The trim around the room was barely hanging on. The carpet was obviously cleaned after "the fire event" but not replaced. It looks discolored from the cleaning. The bathroom floors and vanity had cracks and chips all in it. The hallway ceiling slats were cracked and coming slightly down in several places. There isn't any curtains on the window in the dining rooms. At first it was great for the view but when the sun came down you were blinded. The laundry room soap dispenser wasn't working and one of the washers kept running.

The other complaints we had are more carnival policy changes. These changes may be petty but to a seasoned carnival customer, it was annoying. The amenities that you grew to expect now have to be asked for and asked for to receive. They no longer have robes in the rooms. When I asked for the robes back they brought one. We have two rooms with 6 people and I had to ask for them to bring each one a robe. They no longer clean your room twice a day. They offer once and you can ask for twice but it isn't a guarantee. No more are you automatically given ice, unless you ask and keep asking. Ice was impossible to get all over the boat. Almost all of the drink stations had no ice. Some would have buckets. Room service is either completely gone or they decided to remove the menus from the rooms to discourage the use of it. The one time we tried to call to get ice, it took 10 minutes to get someone to answer. I find that hard to believe they were busy when they don't have menus in the room anyway. We didn't get towel animals until we complained. There is no chocolate on the pillow (even though I never liked the chocolate anyway. No LOBSTER on formal night of cruises under 7 days. The other head scratching change was the lack of tea. All drink machines have 3 lemonades and 1 tea that was always out. Every time we asked for tea in the dining room, they said they were out. We did notice some interesting changes on the menu that we liked. My son complained that they turned off all ice cream machines but one after a certain time. I have no idea if this is new or not since I don't eat ice cream.

The overall layout of this boat is odd. The eating areas are on top of the traffic areas from one part of the boat to another. One line waiting for food merges into another line for another type of food. There also wasn't clear beginning and ending spots in some areas which made it difficult to politely get food. For such a big boat, it just felt crammed everywhere.
