A pretty good experience from first-time cruisers. We have travelled the world for over 40 years and lived in several countries, but always thought cruising was the equivalent of staying in a resort hotel. And we weren't sure that was us. I'm still not certain of that, but would have to say we found this cruise a very enjoyable experience. The ports of call were as rushed as I imagined they would be and gave little insight. But, hey, we were there for the cruising, and that was just fine!
We selected a balcony cabin (7239) right by the elevators in the "hump" about two-thirds of the way back on the port side. We thought it was great - a little bigger than we expected with a bathroom that was cosy but quite reasonable in size. Excellent shower! The bed was super comfortable. Only quibble I'd have about the cabin was the provision of a couch that was just too big. It comfortably seated four people (becoming our dump patch) and took up too much room. But all else was great - good-sized balcony (bit chilly often to sit out on, but always handy for arrivals and departures, looking down on the ants), good little fridge, TV with international channels, ample wardrobe and packing space.
The speakers were a bit so-so. The history professor obviously knew his stuff, but he hardly made St Petersburg come alive. Yawn! The young woman on law and order was a great presenter, but the content was too "provincial" and a bit self-serving. Who really cares about the achievements of a police PR person?
Roomy and in a great position. Wondered about noise right beside the elevators, but it wasn't a problem. Great sound-proofing obviously. Don't know why they need such a huge couch, taking up so much room.
