We had glorious weather on our Alaskan cruise with temps between 18 and 22 celsius (68 - 72 Fahrenheit). so that makes a big difference in how one enjoys any travel experience. Besides the effect of the weather, overall, our trip was almost 'excellent' in most ways but for a few things.

This was our second cruise. The Island Princess is smaller but just as beautiful and luxurious as the larger Royal Princess which we were on in the Caribbean. The decor is stunning. All the lounges, the library and little nooks all provided comfortable seating areas and all had ocean views. The ambiance was wonderful and we seldom felt crowded.

However, our room which was just below an open deck where rain falls, smelled decidedly of mould...to which I am allergic. We told the front desk right away about it and about the rusty light frame on the ceiling which shows that water had leaked into the ceiling above. Someone was to come and check which I presume they did when we were out. We did receive a phone call asking if everything was alright. But really, unless you open the ceiling and replace it, the mould is not going to disappear. We weren't offered another room so we just kept our balcony door open at all times and that cleared the air.

Balcony

Because we were right under the open deck, obviously water had seeped into the ceiling above us and had started to become mouldy. With the balcony door closed there was a distinct smell of mould emanating from the ceiling above.
