We had taken several Viking River Cruises previously and were excited by the prospect of being on what appeared to be a beautiful ocean liner. We were not disappointed. The dining was exceptional and we were especially pleased with Manfredi's. Although you have to make a reservation at Manfredi's, we were able to go twice and should have gone more often. The dining experience exceeded any top rated restaurant at which I had previously dined.
Our accomodations were excellent and we were so happy to have internet access in our room and to be able to communicate with the folks back home. The internet access and speeds were a real step up from that available on our previous river cruises.
The spa availability and features was also delightful. I've never been in a "snow grotto" before and it was very neat.
Our Cabin was lovely. At the time of year of our cruise, the heated floor in the bathroom was most welcome. We wish that the weather was a bit warmer so we could have enjoyed our balcony but understood that would be problematic when we booked the cruise. Our room steward was exceptional and truly warm and welcoming.
Toulon Harbor is a remarkable place and a major port for the French Navy. Be sure and book a harbor tour. We also enjoyed walking around the city, visiting the market place and casually viewing all of the various cathedrals, military squares, etc.
We did not book an excursion because we had been to Monaco previously. Regardless, if you have never been here, you should book a walking tour, if your physically capable. Monaco is a verticle city so you need to be fit enough to climb stairs and steep inclines. Otherwise, grab a cab. Be sure and stop by the famous Casino and the Pink Palace is a must.
