Great Family Cruise

Sail Date: April 2009
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Barbados

We had a 3 bedroom inside cabin they were twin beds with one bunk bed over, plenty of drawers and wardrobe space, spacious bathroom as well. My parents had an outside cabin with balcony but they had a smaller bathroom - we also had more floor space in our room, but we would definitely go for an outside cabin next time, just to see some day light and somewhere to sit.

All restaurants were great, we used them all - Pizza/Pasta (service was a bit slow), Horizon for evening meal, breakfast and lunch - all very good. Afternoon tea was great a lovely english tradition. The Steak Restaurant was excellent, we ate in the Rigolata restaurant most evenings with any time dining - we never had to wait for a table any more than 5 minutes. One gripe is the price of drinks, very excessive, cheapest bottle of wine was £20 for a Chardonnay - I have never drank so little on holiday!!

Entertainment in the evenings was OK, some better than others (although our Son was not More keen) - the Disco was very quiet, we went twice. We watched a few movies under the stars - Slumdog millionaire and a few others which were all very good. They show the live football matches for the top games in the afternoons which appeals to the British.

Our son spent a lot of time in the childrens club, but he would prefer to be with the 13 years olds but they had strict rules on this - he could not join so he had to mingle with the 8 year olds which he was not too happy about.

The ship was very clean and all members of staff were excellent, very friendly.

We went during the Easter School holiday's so there were lots of children on board, but not so many that they were under you feet, we did not see many babies or toddlers. Lots of English a few Americans, Germans and Canadians. You get your usual problems with reservation of sun beds, particularly on days at sea, but if you hunt around you can usually find one.

We did two Princess organized shore excursions - both were very good. On the whole we organized our own excursions from the UK and these were very good and saved us a lot of money. One gripe on the shore excursions is that they don't provide you with a preview brochure - you have to do it all on line which can be tedious.

When we checked in at Gatwick we did not see our bags until we got to our cabin, the same going home, bags went outside our room the evening before departure and we did not see them again until Gatwick. It was all very speedy and efficient.

We would do another cruise but not until our Son is older so that he can really make the most of it. Less

Cabin review: Sea Princess C708

Room all OK - had air conditioning, lighting not great as there were no outside windows.

Port and Shore Excursions

You are close to town from the ship - again you get hassled by taxis trying to get you to do their tours - again we had our own trip organised. Go to www.islandtour.com - Lawrence of Antigua was great!

Not a particularly nice place - quite dirty and people touting all the time.

Another Port we went to was Bonaire - this is a beautiful port - best one yet - a nice long path along shops with plenty of restaurants into a lovely town.

Margarita and Grenada - we had trips organized via Princess for this but both seemed very nice. Margarita was particularly nice, another nice port with a beach and some craft markets.

There is a small craft market there - you get hassled by tour guides to go on their tours -we were glad we had our own arranged. We went River Tubing with Antours - great trip would thoroughly recommend.

Small cruise terminal with shops - we did our own trip with Phillips tours to Dunnes River - great guy very knowledgeable

A long walk to anywhere from where you dock. We had our own trip organized, it was a sailing pirate ship, brilliant trip not too far to walk to from the cruise terminal, this is a great one if you like snorkeling - the crew were very attentive and knowledgeable - Look at Lord Sheffied - St Maarten for a great time

We did not do a trip on this day - walked around the terminal - not a lot to see but plenty of lovely fish to look at with clear water
