Just returned from a fantastic week on the Veendam from Boston to Montreal. Although the cruise overall was great, there were a few glitches.

We took Amtrak from Newark to Boston and, except for a track and platform change with only four minutes to go (no announcement was made) we struggled to get our luggage down the stairs and up the narrow escalator with the help of some fabulous people. Thanks to all. The ride itself was fine and we arrived on time. We were a quick ride taxi away from our hotel, The Seaport Boston which was wonderful, quickly dropped off our luggage, and took a quick 15 minute walk down to the seaport to see the Norwegian Dawn depart for Bermuda. We then had a leisurely walk back to our hotel.

The next morning, we took a taxi to the port at about 11:30, checked in, and we were on the ship and in our cabin before noon. I was very happy to see the carpets in the elevators announcing the days of the week. They had been missing on our last few cruises. We had an OV on Deck A which was tight but comfortable. We usually stay in at least a balcony but, as a recent retiree, I decided to save some money since the balcony cabins were three times what we paid. We had a sleeper/sofa, a small desk, and flat screen TV that, from the bed, you had to reach way up to use the remote since the TV was set back and the receiver was hidden. What surprised me the most was that there was no fridge. The bathroom was pretty big with the usual small tub. The drain, however, was somewhat slow to drain and this seemed to be a common problem. On the plus side, the shower was pretty good and plenty of hot water. The HVAC worked very well. The distance from the electrical outlet to the bed was close so I was easily able to plug in my CPAP at night. Only one 110V outlet and one 240V outlet made charging difficult so I would strongly recommend bringing a power strip (not a surge protector) with you. Belkin has a great little device with 3 outlets and 2 USB ports. I brought a grounded European adapter for the 240V outlet which I used for my CPAP.
