We had done ocean cruises, and heard about river cruises from friends. It was an outstanding choice. It was very easy to begin and end the cruise. Also getting off and on at ports was very smooth and easy. We were on the Viking Idun. Dining was excellent, and more regional than on ocean cruises. We were in port more than on ocean cruises, so on board entertainment was less extensive, and more local, but very good. Ports and shore excursions were well handled, and all had very good local leaders. Several buses were used for some excursions, and the time at the site was staggered so the site would be less crowded. The sites we visited were amazing. One couple got lost on an excursion and the cruise organizers did a great job in finding them. We will go on a river cruise again, and most likely remain loyal to Viking. The concept of having two days in the cities where we began and ended the cruise was a very pleasant addition to the cruise experience.
We were at water level which was interesting. The window was just above the water. The cabin was small, but we spent little time there except for sleeping. We even went elsewhere to read. It met our needs, but we weren't there for the cabin.
