We have traveled extensively on Viking River Cruises and on the Viking Star in the Mediterranean, so we wanted to see how the Viking Sea compared. It was every bit as good. The meals were excellent with something for any taste. Our cabin, and all the cabins, had a balcony with table and chairs. Even in relatively rough seas, the Viking Sea was stable and smooth. The staff was friendly, efficient and great to work with. This was a new itinerary to the northernmost point in Norway, then back down Norway to the Shetland and Orkney Islands. Some of the small towns had trouble rounding up enough ground transportation, but everyone was welcoming. Because we visited smaller cities, we had to transfer from the Viking Sea to the port in a couple of cities by "tender," the large, enclosed lifeboats. There were even brass bands and drum corps to welcome us and send us off. The shore excursions which were all included provided a taste of the area. We took some of the optional tours (read extra cost) but enjoyed all of them. This is a trip I would recommend for anyone who wants to see more of Norway than Oslo and Bergen.
