We drove down to Tampa from Citrus County (90 minutes), and parked at the dock. Despite what RCCI tells you, the fee is now $14 per day, and there are no legit alternatives that don't involve cab fare. Check in at 3 was a breeze, quite organized. They did inspect baggage, then woosh, you're on. They suggested we have a bit to eat in the Windjammer, since they were about to close down. There was a nice offering of dishes. We went exploring afterwards.
Grandeur is one of the older, smaller ships in RCCI's fleet, and is truly a gem! I fervently hope they don't let her go in favor of the mammoth ships they're introducing. The staff is phenomenally friendly and helpful. The only sour note we hit was there was supposed to be a liquor tasting in the boutique area at 8, and at 5 after we were brushed aside without even a "sorry, we're running late". Given that, we went to the champagne bar for a before dinner drink.
The line is militant about not bringing your own bottles aboard, not even wine. They even have a cheery little game show on TV warning you of dire consequences if you break this and other standards of conduct. Reluctantly, we resolved to pay the $6-9 per drink, but were happily surprised to find at least they really give a decent pour. Just wish the servers here were as attentive as the ones in the dining room.
First struck us as small, but it grew on us. loads of storage, but cabinetry was banged up a bit. Nice quiet location, but a health walk to the centrum elevators (no aft bank of elevators). Bathroom mirror losing its finish. Basically, cabins need a makeover, but overall well kept. Don't give up the ship because of that!
