Cruise was chosen as a surprise for my Mother's 84th birthday. My Mother has never cruised before and I thought it would be a nice introduction to her to cruising. So I booked a suite for us. When I booked I asked to purchase a birthday package, which includes birthday decorations in the cabin and on the cabin door, and a birthday cake at dinner. I was advised and assured that they would add this to the booking for free. I was thankful, but as it was an extremely important part of the surprise, I called the day before the cruise to make sure everything was booked correctly.
My mother was certainly surprised when we came to the port and I told her that this was her present. However, if Fremantle Port wishes to impress anyone, they really need to update their port as it currently looks and feels like a warehouse.
Walking onto the ship, there was no staff to greet us, so we just had to walk around a little to get our bearings and take the lift to the suite. On arrival, my heart sank - NO DECORATIONS - so the surprise completely ruined. After mentioning this to the steward straight away and then again the next day, they eventually hung some balloons up! A little too late (VERY little and VERY late) as my Mother's birthday was on disembarking day.
Very large balcony, twin bed suite with a roomy area for lounge. Bathroom poor for the money paid, and the soap, shampoo etc. were not replaced after using them. But had a full wardrobe and makeup desk/area. However. the lighting was very poor and tissues were not replaced after the only two tissues left when we arrived where used. Beds were comfortable. We were not offered any pillow service, even though apparently this was part of the service??? so we have to be happy with the soft ones we had on the bed.
