Sail Date: Jul 2016

I sailed with my Mum a few years ago on the Oceana and had a terrific, two-week Med cruise. The food was fantastic and we spent a fortune in the shops. There were a few things to do on sail days and I went to some very interesting talks.

Embarkation was worse this time - huge groups of us herded like cattle, when last time we had a friendly welcome and practically strolled on board. The cabin was fine - we were inside - but we were located quite far from each other on the same deck, not even on the same side of the ship. The room was clean enough but the shower smelled of wee and there were quite a few scuff marks on the wall.

The design of the ship is a bit discombobulating and I really missed the way that you could stroll around the Oceana, particularly the nice promenade. We found the 'Quiet Zone' with its own pool, which was pleasant enough if a bit shabby. Beyond it was 'The Retreat', a first class seating space which no one seemed to be using. You had to pay a premium to use it but I was never told how much or what it involved.
