I was already in Seward so I chose an low priced cruise to return to Vancouver. The ship was older but quite lovely, being very well maintained. The cabin was about 25 sq. feet larger that the average inside cabin on other ships that I have sailed on [such as Royal Caribbean]. I use the cafe rather than the dining room as I travel alone and prefer casdual service (and no tie & jacket)! The food was not as good as on the Royal Caribbean or Princess, with dinner items being repeated several times during the 7 days of the cruise! The entertainment was good with the ship's dance dance & music ensemble being FANTASTIC, Broadway touring quality. The ports & Shore excursions were pretty standard Alaskan cruise fare though the wildlife centre was the highlight. The scenery (including the glaciers & icebergs) was breathtaking and the ship's captain tried to point out all of the highlights on the way. I never thought I would be continually thrilled to watch those majestic mountain peaks for days on end.

Safety was sadly not a priority. While eating dinner one day, part of the ceiling collapsed, with a ceiling panel striking my shoulder. Once the steward ascertained that I wasn't really hurt, they cleaned up the floor & continued seating people under the open ceiling, never checking to see if more of the ceiling would come down. Nor did they check on me afterwards in my cabin to see how my shoulder was.

Also, those entering the cafe were not req'd to use the hand sanitizer even though they were serving themselves food with shared serving utensils. I think that if an outbreak of Norwalk virus would have occurred, it would have spread like wildfire.

Cabin Review

Large Interior Stateroom

Cabin L

I'm not sure of the letter category of my inside cabin. It was very nice though rust was appearing in a few places in the bathroom. The bed was super comfy and the steward brought everything that I requested very promptly. I also loved having a choice of 1,000 complimentary DVD's to watch on my cabin television as I have a disability that confines me to my bed sometimes.
